2002 Merryvale Profile, Napa Valley
plum, oyster-sauce-bean, tannic, somewhat astringent, olive, long throat-cooling finish. Not the best Profile. - so - ws

2002 Sbragia Monte Rosso Cabernet, Sonoma
plum, mineral, vanilla, cassic, very very pleasant, oaky finish. Not a concentrated, jammy wine, but really quite balance and enjoyable - so - ws
39.99 ****½
2003 Peter Franus Cabernet, Napa Valley
plum, metal, coca cola, tannic, grapy, very easily approachable, a bit like soft drink rather than wine, young bitter finish - so - ws
39.99 ****
2003 Liparita Reserve Cabernet, Napa Valley
A hint of super glue aroma, very dark fruit, plum, chocolate, "bubbly" feeling, licorice, very complex - so - ws
62.99 ****½
2003 Bacio Divino Red, Napa Valley
A blend of cabernet, sangiovese, cabernet franc and other minor varietals. current, mineral, jammy, complex but not very well integrated. finishing short. - so - ws

2002 BV George De Latour Private Reserve Cabernet, Napa Valley
cedar, astringent, berries, vanilla, bitter but long finish, elegant, not standing out - so - ws
74.99 ****
2002 Sbragia Rancho Del Oso Cabernet, Napa Valley
Strange watercress aroma that I find offensive. acidic, berries, long oaky finish but quite simple - so - ws
59.99 ***½
2002 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet, Napa Valley
spicy, spicy. Astringent, cedar, anise, berry, long finsh. Very good but very pricey. - so - ws
94.99 ****½
2003 Far Niente Cabernet, Napa Valley
ripe, cherry, cassis, acidic, fresh herbs, mid body - so - ws
84.99 ****
2002 Verite La Muse, Sonoma
fried onion ring. Yes, I smelled it again and again. And it's not the glass since I have tasted 9 wines using the same glass. Clearly onion. herbs, berry, simple, astringent, strange. Reminded me of this morning. I went to McDonald's for breakfast and decided to try something called McGriddle. Turns out it is a thick pancake, complete with maple syrup which is something I usually enjoy. BUT, they put bacon and cheese and egg in between. Sweet plus salty together is just weird, unbalanced, inelegant and strange. I had to buy French Fries to cleanse my palate. After this Verite, I think I need Kentucy Fried Chicken to match with it. Probably an off bottle as I had tasted this before. The notes at that time was "herbal" but still elegant and worth 4 stars. Grossly overpriced in either case. - so - ws
159.99 ***
