Excuse Club: Two Buck Chuck Horizontal. me, kk, xtal, kko, jason 2007/07/14

 Year  Wine  Price  Rating
2005 Charles Shaw Sauvignon Blanc, California
lemon, lemon peel, simple, sweet, pleasant - so - ws
1.99 **½
2005 Charles Shaw Chardonnay, California
citrus, candy, good concentration lacking depth, more restraint than the sauvignon blanc and less fruity, which is a good thing in this case. Most other Bronco wines taste a bit off dry. This is a great wine for making mussels in white wine. Great value wholeheartedly. - so - ws
1.99 ***
2005 Charles Shaw Merlot, California
parsley, plum, spicy, pepper, off dry. Not too pleasant - so - ws
1.99
2005 Charles Shaw Cabernet, California
plummy jam, vanilla, off dry, hint of licorice and pepper. Not bad at all for a $2 daily wine. - so - ws
1.99 **½
2005 Charles Shaw Shiraz, California
spicy, plum, pomagrenate, rather difficult to distinguish this from the cab. Again good value. At one point we also discussed the fact that Two Buck Chuck wines, against all expectations, can stay overnight or two nights without obvious oxidization. More expensive wines seem to be more vulnerable to oxidization. Jason gave an interesting theory: Bronco may have put more preservatives into their wines. Good point. - so - ws
1.99 **½
2004 Maison Champy, St. Romain
melon, citrus, mineral, mint, pineapple - so - ws
19.99 ***
2001 Schweiger Chardonnay, Spring Mountain
very jammy, vanilla, lemon, pineapple, butter, concentrated, has good length and finish - so - ws
39.99 ****
2005 Castillo de Benizar Rose, La Mancha
kko brought this $2 from Trader Joe. As a comparison of $2 wines, the Two Buck Chuck won big time. This has oxidized sherry aroma, grapy, weird off odor and flavor. Not sure if my software will bomb if I give zero stars so I entered 0.5. This is offensive and is worst than water. - so - ws
1.99 ½
2001 Atalon Cabernet, Napa Valley
bell pepper, licorice, plum, oak, slightly slightly over oaked, mint, berries, complex. - so - ws
29.99 ***½
