Hong Kong Day 11. Grand Tasting with Dad, Dom, Stephenie, Vanessa, Kinghim 2007/03/24

 Year  Wine  Price  Rating
2003 Alter Ego, Margaux
2nd wine of Chateau Palmer from an outstanding vintage. This was blind tasted with 2004 Chateau Palmer. This wine is ruby red in color, mineral, raspberry, acidic, tannic, full of red fruit, with a hint of Chinese salty plum, fine spice, beef and licorice. - so - ws
40 ****
2004 Chateau Palmer, Margaux
This is dark purple in color, meat, plum, vanilla, spice, concentrated, chalky, grilled herbs, med finish. Little hint of Longan. New world style. Thought this was the Alter Ego due to the new world style. - so - ws
80 ****
2004 Ca'Marcanda Promis (Gaja), Toscana
blackberry, tar, very complex, anise, long finish. This is clearly Italian - so - ws
40 ****
2004 Estate Alpha, Greece
A blend of syrah, merlot and others, raspberry, lots of spice, simple, cherry, acidic, herbal, not my cup - so - ws
n/a **
2000 Kistler Pinot Noir, Sonoma
pipa, fig, exotic fragrance, sweet, violet, ultra balanced, elegant, extremely complex, wonderful pinot noir. - so - ws
95 *****
2003 Chateau Lynsolence, St. Emilion
musk, leather, vanilla, earthy, rice crispy, very weird to pair this with a pinot. The pinot is clearly more outstanding, perhaps affecting the outcome of the judgement. This is clearly excellent, but St. Emilion can be made better. - so - ws
170 ****½
2001 Yalumba Octavius, Barossa Valley
orange peel, very concentrated, mineral, vanilla, blood, Cool Tea, long long finish. - so - ws
n/a ****
