Excuse Club 2006/11/11

 Year  Wine  Price  Rating
2003 Kirkland Tuscany, Toscana
Kirkland is Costco's negociant brand. This wine has 60% sangiovese, 30% cabernet, 10% merlot. Modeled after super tuscan. For the price it is a very complex wine, with sage and other roasted herbs, black currant, cherry, strawberry, earth. Sweet almost jammy. The finish is a little bland. This is very interesting. Sometimes it is very good with good depth. Sometimes quite short. Don't know why. - so - ws
19.99 ***½
2003 Kirkland Bordeaux, Pauillac
Olive, blackcurrant, mint, vanilla oak. Simple - so - ws
23.99 ***
2002 Robert Mondavi Cabernet, Stags Leap District
fruit cranberry, pencil lead, sage, good representation of Stags Leap fruit. But a bit shallow. It's interesting that none of the above red wines match well with the cheap Costco Tri Tip and Pot Roast (already cooked, just microwave). Not only are they not well matched, they actually taste repulsive, like metallic/fishy after eating the meat. May be the MSG? This is very unexpected. Home-made meats do not have the same effect. - so - ws
30 ***½
2004 Schloss Wackerbarth Radebeuler Lossnitaz Traminer Spatlese, Sachsen
Pau brought this back from Germany. Stony, rose, dried longan, mineral, lacking finish and depth. Off dry. - so - ws
n/a ***
