1997 Casisano Colombaio Riserva, Brunello di Montalcino
(Retropective) A very beautiful Brunello. Tar, tea, chocolate, berries, vanilla. Very balanced. From K&L's Greg St. Clair: This Brunello seems more traditionally styled, with good color but not opaque and hints of tea, leather and dark bitter chocolate along with dark red fruit. On the palate it is focused and balanced, and not at all overripe, with tannins in check and an excellent finish. This is very good wine in the classic style. The estate is due south of Montalcino, with a mixed clay and limestone soil. - so - ws

2003 Domaine Beaurenard, Chateauneaf-du-Pape
(Retropective) Most wonderful Chateauneauf-du-Pape I've tasted. Spicy, peppery, orange and mandarine orange peels, berries, well integrated, not super strong but just having the right balance like a gourmet dish. - so - ws

1997 Cinq Cepages, Sonoma
(Retropective) Well integrated and still have a lot of potential for aging. Strong fruity flavor with good combination of coffee, earth and a hint of minty oak. - so - ws
50 *****
2002 Keenan Cabernet, Napa Valley
(Retropective) With fruit mostly from Spring Mountain, this cab is intensely fruity, mostly dark plummy fruit. Chalky, full body, and very long finish. I would have liked a bit more oak in it. - so - ws

2003 Montes Alpha M, Santa Cruz, Chile
(Retropective) No notes. From WS (94 points) Gorgeous, racy and pure, with black cherry, black tea, mineral, espresso and sanguine notes running along finely stitched tannins and fresh acidity. Long, detailed finish echoes with cocoa and fruit. Delivers a lot without being bombastic. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2012. 3,400 cases made. 2002 Clos du Bois Reserve Cabernet, Alexander Valley
