July 4th BBQ at Lim's home with Dominique -- back to HK that night. 2003/7/5

 Year  Wine  Price  Rating
1996 Dunn Cabernet, Napa Valley
coffee, chocolate, plum, cherry, very complex, extremely deep, has good acidity, cedary oak and minut, long finish. - so - ws
79.99 *****
1999 Joseph Phelps Merlot, Napa Valley
very sweet jammy plum, blackcurrant, licorice, herbs, slight bitterness, perhaps a bit overriped. - so - ws
30 ***
1999 Atalon Merlot, Napa Valley
cilantro herb and plum, very concentrated, full body, soft and rounded, the long finish is a bit simple. - so - ws
22 ****
1993 Pira Riserva Barolo, Barolo
cherry, cedar, earth, tannic, chalky, mint... and lots of mint after aeration. A bit of tar and anise. Finish is short. I quite enjoy this wine although most people thought it's disappointing... too many good wines in comparison perhaps masks the objectivity. It does flatten earlier than other wines, not expected for a Barolo. - so - ws
33.99 ****
1998 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac
Second wine of Chateau Latour, having classic Pauillac coffee, blackcurrant, violet, soil. Silky med to full body, good finish. - so - ws
38.99 ****
2000 Montes Folly, Apalta Valley
Kelly Poon's gift although she wasn't able to attend. Very jammy sweet plum yet balanced with spice and herb bouquet, tannic, silky body. Long long finish. Outstanding syrah made in new world style. - so - ws
75 *****
